VILLAGE UPDATE
Just letting people from THE VILLAGE know that Heather and i will be on vacation for the last couple weeks of August, and that there are no official meetings scheduled until September (check back for details). BUT, feel free to get together without us...leave comments here for others to see if you want to make informal plans. Both Second Cup and QQ Teashop are close to where we usually meet and are cool places to hang out (at the corner of King & Marion).Have a good rest of the summer, and we'll see you in September!

New Wine in Old Wineskins
A really good question came up this past week at THE VILLAGE about the meaning of Jesus' parable about new wine in old wineskins. The interesting thing is that Jesus tells the parable after Jesus is questioned about the fasting practices of his disciples, as opposed to the those of the Pharisees and John's disciples (Matthew 9:14-17 / Mark 2:18-22 / Luke 5:33-39).Take some time to consider these passages for yourself, and we'll revisit this parable in the nearer future.
Synopsis of the Four Gospels
This past week at THE VILLAGE, we took a look at the Gospels: teachings OF Jesus & stories ABOUT Jesus. In case you were looking for an online synopsis like the one we used on Sunday (shown above), here's a link:http://www.utoronto.ca/religion/synopsis/meta-4g.htm
To get the passages to line up correctly, simply click on the coloured books (which indicate that another Gospel has a parallel passage).

Raising Money for Methuselah
Starting this week, THE VILLAGE is starting to raise money to buy a goat through World Vision's gift catalogue. We've nicknamed it "Methuselah" and he/she will cost $150. SO, anytime you have change/cash, please make a donation so that we can help another community in need. And check back here once in a while to see how much has been raised, as we'll be tracking our progress. For more information about this outreach, hit up www.worldvision.ca. FAITH | ARTS | JUSTICE
If you're interested in hearing some great speakers and bands, have a passion for worship and the arts, and a concern for justice and peace in the world, you might want to consider checking out NIDUS this year...August 4-6 @ Bingemans Park (Kitchener). This year, their justice theme is to STOP AIDS. There are a number of different rates (i.e. whole weekend versus single evening or day passes), and more information is available at their website: www.nidus2006.caIf this is something you want to plug into, leave a comment below, or let us know at one of our regular VILLAGE meetings.
