Sunday, August 17th @ 7PM: Social Event
THE VILLAGE will be going mini-golfing at Putting Edge in Burlington this Sunday @ 7PM. We'll be meeting there (i.e. 1250 Brant Street...if you're travelling East on the 403, exit at Brant Street, take a LEFT, and Putting Edge is on your LEFT near the Silver City). Cost is around $10. Last Week...REST
SO...last week we continued our study of Hebrews, and looked at the recurrent concept of REST (Hebrews 3-4); specifically what REST meant for the community of Israel throughout their history (pre/post Promised Land), what it meant for the 1st Century community of believers (to whom the letter to the Hebrews was written), and what it can mean for us today (i.e. how we can find REST). It's hard to distill our entire discussion in a few words, but if i were to try, REST can been seen as connected to time/space (e.g. Sabbath as a specific day, Promised Land as a place for REST to take place), as well as connected to one's condition/state (i.e. the possiblity of finding REST along one's journey of faith). As John Calvin wrote, REST can be understood as the "highest human happiness," and this relates to being at peace with God (which can happen at any time in any place, as long as we remain obedient). But since REST is both physical and spiritual, if we emphasize one aspect to the exclusion of the other (e.g. the importance of a specific time or place), we've missed the point. Making space for God in our lives is important, but this is only a vehicle for us to experience REST.MP

VILLAGE CRAFT
Many of you know that our young adults group "THE VILLAGE" meets at the church house on Sunday nights at 8pm. In addition to that, some of the girls from THE VILLAGE have decided to meet once a month to hang out and craft. It's a great time to meet people and finish up those crafts that never seem to get done! So any type of craft is welcome: beading, knitting, scrapbooking, cardmaking, cross stitch... We're meeting this Sunday the 24th right after church (12:30 pm) in the church house. You can either bring your own lunch or run over to Pita Pit or Subway and pick something up. We still have some cardmaking supplies left that anyone is free to use. Otherwise bring your crafts out and hang out for the afternoon. We don't have a set finish time - it's pretty flexible since everyone has different schedules. We'd love to see some new people come out even if you have never been to a VILLAGE event before!

THIS SUNDAY - STUDENT LUNCH
After lunch, we will be having our meeting of THE VILLAGE. If you’ve never been out, you’re totally welcome to join us. The ladies are planning to meet in the church house (96 North Oval) to work on some sweet craft projects…either bring along something of your own (e.g. knitting, scrapbooking, beading, etc) or work on a combined project (i.e. original greeting cards). The guys are planning to hit up the Gravity Climbing Gym ($13). BUT…if you’re a guy (and feeling crafty), feel free to join the ladies…and if you’re a gal (and want to climb), feel free to join the boys.
